Subway

A reasonably clean and well-equipped place for a quick bite.  I’m in love with their veggie subs.  Nice potato wedges too.

Corner of Shahbaz and Hafiz.

I used to live in Defence, Karachi about 17 years back (immigrated to the US) but I have frequented the city a couple times.. and everytime I would visit, I would notice the same trends/fads that had done their rounds in the US, being re-packaged in Pakistan. For example, the whole “Hookah” craze, alongside with this false idea of the smoke being filtered through the water and it being “safe” somehow.. We’re doing the same thing when we see restaurants like KFC and McDonalds as signs of progress. Why are we such followers, and why do we adopt all the junk that the West has to offer? While I’m sure that Subway has some healthy things to offer, I’m speaking in general about fattening and unhealthy foods being toted as “high cuisine,” when in America, this is essentially the “food of the poor.”

I am living in Defence for quite a few years, and a regular Subway visitor at the Shahbaz outlet. I am in love their newly introduced Turkey Pastrami, (which I guess in not available anywhere else in Karachi) and thier potato wedges. A clean outlet to visit with your friends and family.
The staff is very courteous and I am impressed by the way, this young franchisee is running this Subway outlet. I was speaking to him couple of days ago, and was amazed to findout that this outlet at Shahbaz is ranked #1 in Karachi and #2 in Pakistan. A job well done Mr. Tanveer Yusuf.
